Relief Society

I am unexplainably grateful for Relief Society {the womens organization in my church}. not meaning i'm grateful and cant find an explanation for it...but meaning there is no way i can think of to explain how grateful i am for it. The organization of Heavenly Fathers true and living gospel on the earth today is an overwhelming blessing. I am so grateful for His love for me, and for each an every person on this earth {yes, He loves you too :) }. I felt a new level of the inspiration, understanding and great purpose of this organization tonight. i am so grateful for the peace that comes to me directly through and because of the Relief Society. I'm so tired right now, but i pray that the peace, joy and spirit that i feel right now will continue on and i will write more about it later...
but for now...i know that Heavenly Father has once again set up His church on the earth. That He and Christ lead and guide us. And that the Relief Society has great purpose. I love it!

red thumb

i figured red was pretty far from green...

this year was my first attempt at a garden. this seems to be the largest my carrots will grow, or maybe i just am not patient enough? they sat on my counter for 2 days then got thrown away...


but it was fun to pick them :)

Caleb and gracie were eating yogurt and decided to paint graces hair...this is once i got it cleaned out of her hair. she was just cracking me up and i had to take a pic... supermodel material for sure! ;)

Happy Birthday Jennie!


Jennie turned the big 3-0, and we surprised her with a party!


In Mexico {and apparently other Hispanic cultures} there is a tradition that the birthday boy/girl takes a bite out of their cake and someone smashes their face in it as they do. Not too sure who would take a bite knowing what was going to happen, but luckily Jennie was unfamiliar :)

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!


Caleb started preschool on Sept 2nd. This is actually us getting ready to go to the open house the thursday before school started.


Calebs first school-morning-breakfast. many more to come.


I cant believe how big he's gotten!


He has a Diego backpack. i dont even think he knows who diego is {i say think because i often get shocked at what all he's picked up!}. I was disappointed at the backpack selection. Caleb did have a backpack from a book club we joined {shown in top pic} but the zipper broke the week before school. Gracie has a Dora backpack that matches calebs...she had to have what caleb had! she walks around the house pulling hers! :)

Speedy


Jake "saved" a turtle that was crossing the road. In reality he saw it crossing and turned around to save it...but by the time he got back to it he had finished crossing...jake still wanted to feel like he saved him...so he brought him home. :)


the kids were both so excited. grace didnt know what to think. she went between excited and nervous...it was hilarious!


He even went and got icecream with us later that night.


Then when we got home caleb let him go so he could go find his family again {20 miles away}.
oh, and we named him speedy cause he truly was the fastest turtle ive ever seen. and he also wasnt nervous at all. he never pulled back in his shell or anything, even with the screaming kids holding him. Caleb looks in the back yard every day for speedy still :)

i caught a fish...with a barbie pole! :)


i forgot to bring clotes to change into after swimming, so gracie got to borrow someone elses clothes {aka: reason for boy clothes}



i didnt get one of caleb fishing...but here he is all cleaned up later that night :)

Skillet Macaroni and Beef

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef {i used closer to 1 pound}
1 large onion, chopped fine {i used 1/2 onion}
1 red bell pepper, chopped fine {didnt use}
6 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups elbow macaroni {i used more like 3cups}
1 29oz can tomato sauce
2 cups chicken broth
1 1/2tea dried oregano
salt and pepper
shredded cheddar cheese

cook beef over med high heat until no longer pink. drain beef, keep 2tablespoons fat in skillet. add onion, red pepper, and garlic to fat in skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.

add macaroni, tomato sauce, chicken broth, oregano, and reserved cooked beef to skillet with onion mixture and bring to boil. cover, reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender, 8-10 minutes. because i added extra pasta i ended up having to add a little more water{about 1/2 cup} about 7 minutes into cooking. season with salt and pepper if desired {i didnt}. sprinkle with cheddar cheese. also good with hot sauce {Frank's is best!} and/or sour cream.

this isnt the most amazing tasting dish, but it was SO easy to make and made a TON {use a big skillet!} so thought i should share... its like a healthier hamburger helper...did i really just say that!?!?! :)

Lion House Pumpkin Bread

1&1/3 C Veg Oil
5 Eggs
1 16oz can Pumpkin
2C Flour
2C Sugar
1tsp Salt
1tsp Ground Cinnamon
1tsp Ground Nutmeg
1tsp Baking Soda
2 3oz packages Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
1C Chopped Nuts or Chocolate Chips {optional}

Preheat oven to 350'. Combine oil, eggs, and pumpkin. Beat Well. Sift together flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. add baking soda. add sifted ingredients to pumpkin mixture. Beat until blended. Stir in pudding mix and nuts or chocolate chips. Pour into 2 greased 4 1/2 x 8 in loaf pans. bake 1 hour.
i like to bake them as mini muffins...not sure of the cook time for that though.
