Kansas 5- heading back home

This was a "park" that someone gave us directions to when we stopped to give the kids a break. Its someones back yard. at first we were so freaked we drove away but went back to take a pic and saw the elderly man who lived there and decided to go ahead and take advantage of it. Its actually really sweet...they are an old couple and they put this "playground" together and also a basketball court and putt putt course for the "community" to use. so if you ignore that most of the items on the playground are possibly lethal, it's cute :)
{dont even remember what mid-west state this is?}

The playground did the trick. West Va. Napping.
Caleb with a blanket over his head bec he was mad at me cause i asked him to nap so he hid his face...which worked against him bec he almost immediately fell asleep :)
{i made a breathing hole in the blanket after taking the pic}

Drawing!!

For quite a long time now Caleb has asked us "draw me a..." whatever animal {or list of animals} he likes that day. what you can see on this pic is my ostrich {it's legs at least} and my buffalo...yes, that is a buffalo, thank you very much!
Anyways! Caleb took the paper and pencil and went and sat down. he usually does. however this time he came back with this. i looked at it and knew it was a buffalo! See the bottom animal, thats what his animals normally look like. but his buffalo has a body, head, four legs and even fur, an eye and mouth! i was so excited! its a big step! you know, going from scribbles to actually doing something specific and making something real :) today at the dr's office {Grace's well-child checkup} caleb drew a bear. somehow during the hectic appointment i lost it though :(
He's really turning into a kid!!!

Tis the Season, Right?

Besides the fact that its in the mid 80's outside...October is here. And with October comes comfort...that is comfort food. i'll likely be posting more recipes of actual food, but for today...some non-kitchen-required-treats!
Lindt Chocolate is heaven. Period. And it is so easy to buy...you can literally find it anywhere. My favorite? Milk Chocolate Lindor Bar. Stick it in the fridge.
Harry and David has a number of excellent treats, but Milk Chocolate Moose Munch is my favorite! Nuts, popcorn, toffee and chocolate. need i say more?? If your really crazy for the toffee and chocolate covered popcorn...check out their bags of Milk Chocolate Moose Munch Confection! 100% chocolate covered! Wow.
Not as easy to find as Lindt. Check TJ Maxx. Don't get from target, it's not the same.
{*i'm not generally a popcorn fan, but this is in a world of its own!}

Take a deep breathe for this last one.
My uncle sends us See's Chocolates every year for Christmas. we LOVE this gift and anxiously check the mail box daily for our pounds and pounds of yumm that awaits us. Last year there was a new, excellent, treat added. See's Toffee-ettes. Breathe. Heaven. I'm not even ashamed to say i hid these in my room! I think i shared two. and i didnt care that i was being selfish!
"Irresistible bite-size pieces of rich Danish butter toffee with whole almonds are smothered in See's creamy milk chocolate, then covered with bits of toasted almonds. "
Nothing more to say.
Now go figure out where you can find a See's in your area...or suck it up and pay the shipping!
Thank goodness for sweaters!

Spinach and Strawberry Salad

I was recently at a gathering where there was strawberry spinach salad that was completely empty by the time i got to it. i wasnt disappointed...as i had never heard of it and thought it was weird. The mixture of sweet strawberries and warm spinach didnt sounds good. and it still doesnt...but i'm not sure why i pictured cooked spinach?!?
A week later i was in Kansas visiting friends and guess what she made??? You got it.... and it was delicious! So i'm passing it on...its so simple, and so so good! Its also good if you sprinkle nuts over it.

INGREDIENTS:
2 bunches spinach, rinsed and
torn into bite-size pieces
4 cups sliced strawberries
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

In a large bowl, toss together the spinach and strawberries.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar, sugar, paprika, sesame seeds, and poppy seeds. Pour over the spinach and strawberries, and toss to coat.
